Tile & slate repairs, matched and made to last
Slipped slates, cracked tiles, failed bedding. We match the material, fix the cause, and send you the before-and-after photos.
Get a repair quoteA few slipped slates or cracked tiles don't need a new roof — they need a repair done properly, with matched materials, so you can't see where the old stops and the new starts. We survey first, fix the cause, and photograph the lot before and after.
A few bad tiles don’t mean a bad roof
You’ve spotted a slate on the lawn, or a gap in the line, or a tile sat crooked after the last bit of wind. Maybe a damp patch on the bedroom ceiling that lines up with it. You don’t want a new roof. You want the few bad pieces put right, properly, so it doesn’t come back.
That’s this job.
We repair slipped, cracked and missing slates and tiles across Cheshire and South Manchester — Middlewich, Northwich, Knutsford, Winsford and out toward Altrincham and Bowdon. Small-area work, done to the same standard as a full roof. Matched materials, the cause fixed, and photographs of the lot before we leave.
We survey before we quote
Before anyone climbs on your roof, we put a drone up.
A few minutes in the air tells us whether you’ve got three slipped slates or a felt-and-batten problem hiding underneath them. We’d rather know that before we quote than find it halfway through and hand you a surprise.
If it’s a genuine small-area fix, we say so and price the repair. If the survey shows worse — perished felt, rusted nails across a whole slope, bedding gone everywhere — we show you the drone photos and explain what we’re looking at. You see what we see. You decide with the facts in front of you.
Matching matters, so we get it right
A repair that stands out is a repair done badly.
- Slate — Welsh, Spanish, reclaimed. We match by size, thickness, colour and weathering. On older roofs we’ll lift and reuse sound salvaged slates from the same roof so the patch disappears into the rest.
- Clay tiles — handmade and machine-made, plain and pantile. We source the closest available and, where we can, reclaimed stock that’s already aged.
- Concrete interlocking — the common ones we usually match same-day; discontinued profiles we track down before we book the work in.
We tell you how close the match will be before we start. No surprises when the scaffold comes down.
We fix the cause, not just the symptom
Tiles don’t slip for no reason. There are usually three culprits, and we deal with the one that’s actually yours:
- Nail sickness — old iron nails rust through and the slate drops. If the nails on one slope have gone, the rest are on their way. We re-fix on the right fixings, not the failing ones.
- Failed bedding — cracked, blown mortar at ridge, hip or verge lets tiles work loose. We re-bed properly, or move you to a dry-fix system that doesn’t crack again.
- Storm lift — tiles that were never clipped lift in high wind. We re-fix and clip so the next gale doesn’t undo the work.
Re-seating one slipped slate next to ten more about to go is a wasted trip and a second call-out. We don’t do that.
We’re not the cheapest
We’re not, and the homeowners who call us aren’t looking for the cheapest. A £40 patch that slips again by winter isn’t cheap — it’s two jobs.
What you get instead: a drone survey before the quote, matched materials, the cause fixed, an in-house fully insured team on your roof, and before-and-after photos in your inbox. Every repair backed by a written workmanship guarantee.
We’re the most-reviewed roofer in Middlewich, and every one of those 99 Google reviews is five stars. Three generations of Cheshire roofers stand behind that.
When a repair becomes something more
Sometimes the drone shows the honest answer is bigger than a patch. We’ll tell you straight — and we’d rather tell you now than take your repair money and watch it fail.
If it turns out you need a slope re-covered, the ridge dry-fixed, or storm damage made safe first, we handle all of it in-house. You’re not handed off.
Next step
Pulled a slate off the lawn? Spotted a gap in the line? Tell us what you’re seeing and we’ll book the drone survey.
Call 01606 537305 — the line’s answered 24/7 — or email middlewichroofing@gmail.com. We’ll look at the roof first, then quote the repair you actually need.
Common questions
Can you match my old slates or tiles?
Most of the time, yes. Welsh slate, reclaimed clay, concrete interlocking — we source the closest match by size, colour and weathering, and on older roofs we'll reuse sound salvaged pieces from the same roof so the repair blends in. We tell you before we start how close the match will be.
Do I need scaffolding for a small repair?
It depends on the position and the pitch. A handful of slates low down can often be reached safely off a tower or ladder access. Higher up, or on a steep pitch, we scaffold it — we won't cut corners on access to save a few hours. We tell you which it is when we survey, before you commit.
How do you know it's just a repair and not a bigger problem?
We send a drone up first. That shows us whether you've got three slipped slates or a batten and felt problem hiding underneath. If it's a genuine small-area fix, we say so and quote the repair. If the survey shows worse, we show you the photos and explain — we don't sell you a re-roof you don't need, and we don't paper over one you do.
What's caused my tiles to slip?
Usually one of three things: nails that have rusted through (nail sickness), bedding mortar that's cracked and let go, or storm wind lifting tiles that were never clipped. We fix the cause, not just the symptom — re-fixing a slipped slate next to ten more rusted nails is a wasted trip.
Is the repair guaranteed?
Yes. Every repair carries our workmanship guarantee, in writing, and you get the before-and-after photos for your records. We're an in-house, fully insured team — three generations of us in Cheshire — so if anything's ever off, you call us, not a subcontractor who's moved on.
